Politicians often claim that reducing cash reduces black markets. But that is simply not true. What it does, is forces those black markets to more over to cashless too.

The infamous Silk Road was a black market marketplace similar to Ebay, but for mostly illegal things that operated in cashless transactions using BitCoin cryptocurrency. Which launched in 2011.

Even though Silk Road was closed by the FBI, numerous similar marketplaces exist now a days that operate in similar fashion, using primarily crypto-currency for transactions.

Not All Black Markets Are Bad

Black Markets are any purchases that aren't taxed by the government. This includes most of the second hand market. Where people sell off their old stuff to other people. And also includes harmless activities like children selling lemonade which have no reason to be fought against.

By using cash, you make sure that children can keep selling lemonade.
