Sweden
Sweden in one of the first countries that adopted the cashless model. So here is
the story of Swedish cashless.
2009 - Västberga helicopter robbery happened. Where £5.5 million were stolen in
cash. Making cash sound like a bad idea to have around.
Source.
2015-17 - Cash withdrawal and deposits were limited to between 5K and 10K SEK
( approximately 2K and 4K ILS) per week. Forcing people to use less cash.
Source.
2016 - Björn Gustaf Eriksson started a movement against the cashless society in
Sweden, because he saw a lot of problems with it.
Source.
2018 - Due to lack of cash usage in the country ( less than 1% ) and bad public
image of cash, the government starts a project to develop the e-krona, a digital
central bank currency.
Source.
2018 - now - Due to limited amount of cash in circulation, small shops and non
profit organization found it difficult to make any money. Relying on a
buggy Swedish software
was not ideal. And getting change from the banks wasn't
possible.

2018 - now - People grew increasingly unhappy with the cashless society.
